Meet Our School’s Leadership Team

Willie Tan Moh Leong
Group CEO, UCSI Schools Group

Spanning more than 26 years of his career, Willie assumed a diverse range of key portfolios in the education industry in Malaysia which include academic management, teaching, internationalisation, strategic marketing management at both national and international level, programme and business development and new education establishment setup. He has also successfully initiated and established many education projects, both public and private, in countries including Australia, UK, USA, China, Indonesia, Nepal, Vietnam, Myanmar, UAE, Oman, Maldives, Tanzania amongst others.

Before joining UCSI Schools Group, Willie served as Senior Vice-President of Global Engagement Director at UCSI University, Malaysia’s leading private university, and spearheaded its internationalization efforts. He has been instrumental in forging partnerships with more than 250 universities worldwide and also setting up transnational education collaborations in 12 countries which reinforced UCSI’s global presence and brand-name.

His expertise and experience in education entrepreneurship, complemented by his passion in education has contributed to successes in his previous roles in marketing, student enrolment and business development with few established education institutions.

Willie graduated with a BSc in Economics with Honours from the University of London, UK and an International Master of Business Administration from the University of South Australia. He also received the University of London Sesquicentennial Award for the top ten candidates in the world who achieved outstanding results.



Philip McCormick
Head of Campus, UCSI School Kuala Lumpur

Philip McCormick joined UCSI as the Head of Campus for the Kuala Lumpur campus. Previously, Philip was attached to another international school for two years. Throughout his career, he has over 16 years of international school experience that includes six years of school leadership. Philip holds an Honours degree in History and Politics from University College Dublin and a PGCE in History from Cambridge University. He then obtained his Masters in Educational Leadership to enhance his leadership skills. Currently, Philip is pursuing his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA). Philip’s focus for UIS Kuala Lumpur includes excellent academic standards, transparent structures, cutting-edge technologies, character education in the classroom as well as developing a school culture that focuses on positive teacher-student relationships. Additionally, Philip is very keen to build a positive relationship with the parents during this exciting educational journey to ensure that the school can grow forward.

Outside of school, Philip is married and has a beautiful daughter. He also enjoys spending time with his family, reading historical fiction, walking, and an occasional round of golf.



Melinder Mohan Tyndall
Senior Assistant, Sekolah Sri UCSI Kuala Lumpur

Melinder has over 14 years of international teaching experience with her last teaching stint in China. She holds a MA Special and Inclusive Education and a Post Graduate Diploma in Special Needs Education from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. Melinder also possesses a Bachelor in Education, specialising in Language and Literature from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK). Additionally, she also holds the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from the British Council in Malaysia.

Primary School

Sri UCSI School Kuala Lumpur (Primary School) follows the Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah (KSSR) that culminates in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination by the Malaysian Examination Syndicate in Standard 6. With English as the primary mode of communication, the school enhances the strength of the local curriculum amidst a vibrant, international environment that emphasises the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as integral learning and teaching tool to encourage students’ active participation in the entire learning process. We will also incorporate Microsoft Education tools and resources such as Office 365, Teams, Hacking STEM and Minecraft Education into our teaching and learning process. We are committed to educating our children to be active and independent learners in the acquisition of knowledge and skills in an international setting, within a safe and conducive environment.

While academic excellence in public examinations is a vital aspect of the learner’s success, we also conduct ongoing formative assessments to gauge the learner’s progress. Assessment for Learning is an integral part of learning which enables close monitoring of learners’ attainment based on the learning standards. Secondary School

Sri UCSI School Kuala Lumpur (Secondary School) offers the Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah (KSSM) from Form 1 to Form 5 that will lead to the Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) examination in Form 3, and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in Form 5. The increased proportion of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) content in the curriculum as well as in the summative assessments has gradually brought about a shift from recalling in learning to critical thinking that will prepare the learners for global competition.

We are committed to educating our children to be active and independent learners in the acquisition of knowledge and skills in an international setting, within a safe and conducive environment. At Sri UCSI School Kuala Lumpur, we are committed to providing a wide range of activities that are differentiated and learner-centred, making the learning process in our school fun, meaningful and purposeful.

Cambridge Programme

Sri UCSI School Kuala Lumpur adds depth and substance to our curriculum by enhancing it with selected elements from the United Kingdom education syllabus; especially in English, Mathematics and Science. The English curriculum implemented and taught follows the Cambridge O-Level or Cambridge 1119 standards. We also promote the teaching of Mathematics and Science in English using textbooks and resources that are recognised internationally from the United Kingdom. Students in Standard 6 and Form 3 sit for the Cambridge Checkpoint exams which are set by the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations (CAIE). Additionally, Sri UCSI KL allocates additional learning periods for all core subjects, unlike local government schools.

Cambridge Primary

The subjects taught are English, Mathematics and Science. Students do have the option to sit for the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Test in Primary 6. The tests are marked in Cambridge and provide us with an external international benchmark for our students’ performance. Each student receives a statement of achievement from Cambridge.

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The subjects taught are English, Mathematics and Science. Students do have the option to sit for the Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint Tests in Form 3. The tests are marked in Cambridge and provide us with an external international benchmark for our students’ performance. Each student receives a statement of achievement from Cambridge.

International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

Only selected students in the Upper Secondary will have the chance to study IGCSE and the subjects taught are Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English. Students will sit for the IGCSE examination by Cambridge Assessment International Education.




Mandarin Provision

Although English and Bahasa Melayu are the main languages of instruction, we offer different levels of Mandarin Language lessons to learners of various backgrounds. With this, learners in Sri UCSI Springhill can work well in a three-language environment. In addition to the Mandarin Language examinations in PT3 and SPM, there are also opportunities for learners to do the internationally recognised Chinese Proficiency Tests conducted by the Confucius Institute (Hanban). To ensure a stronger Mandarin provision of the students', the school has also provided the Mandarin Language Proficiency Certification of Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK). The HSK programme is a Chinese Proficiency Test used as an entry requirement for enrolment into any university in China.

Co-Curricular Activities

The co-curricular activities (CCA) at Sri UCSI School are a compulsory part of the school activities as a whole. CCA is an integral part of the school life of any student. Some of the benefits of CCA is to help promote the growth of students by teaching them social skills, moral values, and leadership capabilities.
